GL026 Wakka Wakka

This is a track made for slapstick comedy a la Benny Hill. Remember when chasing people and getting chased was funny? LOL.

This track is available for scoring, and also acts as a demo of some of my stylistic capabilities. If you'd like to commission custom work, please get in touch. I'm always interested in new projects.

If you'd like to use this track, please message me for attribution requirements.

This is a bouncy light orchestral jazz/pop track stereotypically used for 40's and 50's advertisements. It's light, fun, and kitschy, and believe it or not, incredibly challenging to produce. I spent weeks steeping my ears in the work of Les Baxter, Heinz Kiessling, Leroy Anderson, and Laurie Johnson in order to learn the ins and outs of kitsch string arrangement/orchestration. It's pretty dense stuff for what ends up ultimately being a musical joke.

Some of the flourishes in the woodwinds might be a bit distracting depending on the context of your film/game, but they're so idiomatic I couldn't bring myself to render a version without them. If it ends up being a problem, contact me and we can work something out.

This track includes the basics. I've rendered out full versions of the track as well as split intro/loop formats, and included a stinger in case you need to edit an ending into the middle. As always, uncompressed .wav are included along with 320kbps .mp3 files.

As with all the things posted here, this is freely available for use in games and/or animation projects. It also works as a sort of demo of my style and abilities. I’m actively looking for new gigs, so if you enjoy anything here please get in touch to discuss some custom work.

I’ve provided separate intro/loop files for ease of editing. If you would like to use this free loop, please message me for attribution requirements.

GL023 Attention Campers! (Pipsqueak Leads the Charge)

"It's impossible!" Danny the redhead groaned. "There are too many of them, and they're too big. Even *IF* we captured their flag, we'd still need to get back to home base without getting creamed! You guys remember what happened to Walley, doncha?!"

The rest of the members of Rabbit Troop murmured in agreement. The situation was grim. Then from the center of the room squeaked a tiny but confident voice.

"Attention campers! So they outnumber us! They're bigger! They're stronger, and they have a trebuchet. They have more battle experience, and more balloons! D'you know what they don't have? They don't have speed! They don't have cunning! They don't have heart! You sit around and cry like we've already lost, but I say to hell with Wolf Troop! Lenny, you can hit any target from over 20 feet away without some stupid machine. George, you can outmaneuver any of those stupid wolves. Donny, your sneakiness has helped you steal more fruit snacks from Miss Henson than anyone else! If you all want to give up right now that's fine! All the other troops will smile and say "I told you so...Rabbit Troop sucks". Well I'm the smallest, but I'm proud to be a Rabbit, and I want to show them all what Rabbit Troop can do! I'm going to go get Walley back, I'm going to get that flag, and I'm going to win the golden feather. Rabbit Troop rules, wolf troop drools! Who's with me?!"

I felt like writing some summer camp music. I guess it's basically John Philip Sousa with a toy marching band. Not much more to say than that.

I rendered out several loops for this one since the piece changes character a few times. The preview is a self-contained piece of music, but I've tagged a drum chorus onto the end of the full loopable version which leads right back into the beginning in case you need it. Either use it in it's entirety, or edit together something that works for you using the various stems and loops I've included. Stingers are also available for abrupt endings.

GL015 SNES Map Music

"Get your good walking shoes on, pixelated adventurers! Great riches and honor await as you embark on this new somewhat cutesy journey!"

This loop was created as the backdrop for the map world/level selection screen of an SNES influenced game. The developers requested music that sit somewhere between the "ready for adventure" feel of some of the earlier Final Fantasy music, but with a modern edge of the type of music used in Pocket Fighter. All that coupled with the cutesy bright colors this game was visually based on made it a difficult order to fill. I tried to use rising somewhat leapy motifs in the synths to mimic what I would typically do with french horns in a "hero's theme". Typically I would add a timpani to some of the strong beats, and a militaristic snare drum clattering in the background, but this didn't fit the style of game. I had to straighten out what would normally be dotted 8th note/16th note rhythms so I could add a light breakbeat to the background. I then added a lofi soundfont of an electric guitar (to get some of that cheesy sampled SNES goodness) during the bridge section to give it a more rocky feel. It works, but I would like to approach this track again in the future with less rigid constraints. I think the melody would even work well at a very slow tempo in harmonized woodwinds or french horns with tremolo violins sustaining an upper pedal tone to create a sense of morose but courageous expectation. Perhaps in the near future...

GL013 Get Fabulous

“Welcome swingers! Pull up a groove and get fabulous! We’ve set the bar high with a bar-none no holds barred wet bar. Get loosey goosey and party hardy - it’s time to mingle!”

As I’ve gotten older I’ve really come to appreciate the kitschy ‘60’s era pop-jazz. This is the stuff being churned out by Henry Mancini, Esquivel, Herb Alpert, and was featured as intro music to such shows as Bewitched, I Love Lucy, I Dream of Jeannie, Lost in Space, Star Trek, and more. Granted there are minor stylistic differences between all the aforementioned themes, it all occupies the same kitschy space in my heart. There was very serious jazz happening at this time in many different pockets, but this is the music that Dad’s got on vinyl party compilations promising light dinner hits, swingin’ cocktail parties, and “exotic” dance stylings of the mambo, bossa nova, and cha-cha. I can’t even begin to describe how much I love this stuff. I’m sure a lot of it comes from my love for Archer and The Venture Bros. By the way, #Animators! If you ever do a project like that I really really REALLY want to write music for you. Just saying.

This track was created for a game called Pixel Hero - Prologue. This is game is actually a teaser - merely an appetizer for what is to come. If fully funded, I’ll have the opportunity to REALLY stretch out and write more music in this style. Please consider making a donation if you’re even the slightest bit interested in this project.
